A Beacon in Dublin Bay

First built in 1768, Poolbeg Lighthouse has stood at the entrance to Dublin Bay for over 250 years. Rebuilt into its present form in 1820, the lighthouse has changed appearance over the centuries, from its original granite appearance to a period when it was painted black as maritime colour conventions evolved,

before becoming the distinctive red landmark we all recognise today.

Still guiding vessels into Dublin Port, Poolbeg Lighthouse remains a much-loved destination for walkers and photographers.

Its changing colours, light, and surroundings have made it one of Dublin Bay's most photographed landmarks.
